Another name for Weekly Lesson Plan is “Plan of Work”. Let it be known here that there is a big difference between a Note of Lesson and a weekly plan of work. However, the two records cannot stand without each other. I am saying this because of the misconceptions making rounds regarding a Note of lessons and a Weekly Lesson Plan. Many teachers believe that the two records are the same and have no clear difference.
WHAT IS A WEEKLY LESSON PLAN?
A weekly Lesson Plan is a teaching plan drawn from the scheme of work with the weekly topics carefully broken down into sub-topics according to periods of the subject in the school time – table. Therefore, a weekly lesson plan is all about a systematic analysis of the weekly subject topic into sub-topics according to the number of times the subject appeared in a School Time Table for effective teaching and learning of the subject.
Agencies and organizations like the Universal Basic Education Commission [UBEC], Federal Ministry of Education, and other education-based organizations do not compromise with quality teaching and learning in schools. This is the real reason why a carefully developed Weekly Lesson Plan is vital.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WEEKLY LESSON PLAN AND A NOTE OF LESSON
The difference between a Weekly Lesson Plan and a Note of lesson is that Weekly Lesson Plan has to do with the breakdown of scheme weekly subject’s topic into sub-topics according to the number of periods the subject is taught in the school Time-Table while a Lesson Note has to do with the full development of the weekly lesson plan already broken into sub-topics with all the teaching methodologies and technics carefully observed for effective teaching and learning.
CHECK: HOW TO SECURE SECONDARY SCHOOL ESTABLISHMENT APPROVAL
A weekly lesson plan or plan of work has certain procedures and development parameters that must be strictly observed. Procedures like, the title, time, subject [s], periods, content breakdown. These items are captured in a column and treated accordingly while the Note of Lesson captures items or procedures like the title, the class you are writing for, age, time, sex, date, topic, specific objectives, instructional techniques, entry behavior, set inductions, instructional procedures involving the steps, learners or student’s performance activities, evaluations, summary, and closures. You develop your Note of Lesson from the Weekly Lesson plans.

SIMPLE STEPS TO DEVELOPING A WEEKLY LESSON PLAN
- Having studied the example above, I shall now go ahead to explain just a few areas I feel might be a bit complicated. Follow the steps:
- Draw your table into columns and rows and create your subject, period, and content breakdown column as shown above
- Write down and treat the subjects one at a time by breaking the topic for the week into sub-topics to cover the number of times they are to be taught in a week.
- State the number of periods and when a sub-topic is supposed to be taught in the period column and the sub-topic in the content breakdown column. See the sample above.

Observe that subjects like English Language and Mathematics enjoy the highest number of periods taught in a week in the timetable. The reason is that those two subjects are expected to be taught all through the day’s school reopens. The whole essence of the Weekly Lesson Plan is to help deliver every topic in the scheme of work with every specific objective of the topic met.
